What comes to mind when you see the date, September 30? For most of us in the translation industry, this is the day where we recognize the work of translators; Translators Day.

It is easy to see where the day has come from as September 30 is also the day of St Jerome. St Jerome was a Christian scholar, priest and the patron saint for translators and interpreters. He is most famous for being the Bible translator, translating the original Hebrew source into Latin. By doing so, he made the words of the bible known to a wider Christian audience.

In 1953, the International Federation of Translators was formed and September 30 celebrations were encouraged by the association as a way to bring attention to the translation profession in their countries. It wasn’t until 1991 that the association decided to launch the idea of International Translators Day on an international scale.

Today, International Translators Day is marked by dedicated events held each year. In addition, the International Federation of Translators selects a theme each year to mark the day with. This year the theme is the Changing Face of Translation and Interpreting. Even though the basic principles of translation have not changed, technology is playing an increasingly important part in the translation process.

Here at Argos, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our freelance translators and vendors that have continually worked with us during these past few years. We appreciate your support and look forward to another year of translations. Happy Translators Day!
